Training Course
„Wo+Men Rights”
Rio Maior, Portugal
19/06/2023-26/06/2023

In June of this year, an exceptional and enlightening project centered around Wo+Men’s rights unfolded in the beautiful town of Rio Maior, Portugal. This extraordinary initiative, founded by the European Union, brought together a diverse group of 30 passionate participants from various countries across Europe, with the aim of creating a platform for discussion and collaboration on topics related to gender-based violence, social norms, and the broader landscape of Wo+Men’s rights.

Danuta & Filip from Poland took part in such event! The adventure began in Lisbon, where we met other participants and went together to Rio Maior.

Throughout the course of an engaging week-long rendezvous, the project efficiently facilitated an atmosphere of open dialogue and exchange of ideas. With two representatives from each participating country, a rich tapestry of perspectives and experiences were interwoven, allowing for a comprehensive exploration of the multifaceted issues surrounding Wo+Men’s rights.

Amidst enlightening conversations and insightful workshops, the participants delved into the root causes and effects of gender-based violence. They examined the societal structures and deeply ingrained norms that perpetuate the oppressive treatment of women, along with the unfortunate consequences resulting from systemic gender inequality. These discussions truly shed light on the pressing issues faced by many individuals, emphasizing the importance of creating a harmonious and equal society that respects and safeguards the rights of all genders.

Through a collaborative and inclusive approach, the project fostered a safe space for valuable conclusions and learning. Participants were able to elevate their awareness about the prevailing circumstances surrounding Wo+Men’s rights, gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges faced within their respective communities. Realizing the significance of dialogue and education in breaking down long-held prejudices and misconceptions, the project aimed to equip its participants with the necessary tools to become catalysts for transformative change.

The project’s impact was far-reaching and undeniably beneficial. It not only paved the way for a profound personal transformation within the participants, but also instilled a sense of empowerment and inspiration in their hearts. Armed with newfound knowledge and the resolve to enact positive change, each participant returned to their country equipped to challenge societal norms, advocate for Wo+Men’s rights, and work towards building more inclusive and equitable communities.

During the project we also had some activities in a Portuguese village called Arrouquelas, where the hosting organisation H2O is based. The last day we spent in Nazare, next to Atlantic Ocean. The project was super helpful and developing. New skills and competences are making us more aware and open-minded youth. We enter the society even more powerful right now!

Overall, the project’s resounding success demonstrates the power of collaboration, education, and open dialogue in addressing the pressing issues surrounding Wo+Men’s rights. By sparking meaningful discussions and providing a platform for individuals to learn from one another, it has undoubtedly contributed to the ongoing struggle for gender equality, serving as a testament to the indomitable human spirit in the face of adversity.
